Coin Samples
There are several great places to find lots of period coins to use as samples. These include but are not limited to:
www.coinarchives.com/ - This has
an Ancient coin section and a World Coin section. The latter covers the Medieval
and early modern period.
www.cngcoins.com - Many ancient and period
coins. Use "Search" to see what is currently for sale and "Research" to see past
coins.
www.vcoins.com - Another sale site. The
search feature lets you see current and past coin listings.
The images on these pages are ones that I found particularly interesting. Interesting defined by being less common types, very clear images and/or great documentation.
NOTE: These images have been copied under the "fair use" provisions of the copyright law. Which is a nice way of saying I have not asked for permission to use them. That means they an only be used for non-commercial, educational purposes. To use them in, say an booklet to be sold, you would need permission from the original sources.
Here are samples of various coinages with a focus on Europe from the 600's through 1600.
Anglo Saxon 600's through 1066
